The advent of Industry 4.0 meant that manufacturing companies must adopt more advanced technologies in their manufacturing shop floor and offer higher value products and services in a bid to stay competitive in a technology driven era. In conjunction, companies will be required to reskill their workers to take on higher value manufacturing jobs. The CCP for Advanced Manufacturing Engineer, Assistant Engineer, and Operator (CCP) is a career conversion programme that aims to support companies in reskilling their new or existing mid-career PMETS and Operators to move into better manufacturing job roles within the Precision Engineering sector as the company undergo transformation and adopt technologies.
The CCP operates under the following modes:
- Place-and-Train (New hire): PMETs and Operators are hired by participating employers before undergoing training to take on new manufacturing job roles.
- Redeployment/ Job Redesign Reskilling (JRR): Targeted at companies that are undergoing business transformation, or where their existing PMETs and Operators are in vulnerable jobs due to transformation. These PMETs and Operators will be provided with training to take on new or enhanced job roles within the same company.
Companies will receive salary support as their newly hired or existing mid-career PMETs and Operators undergo a structured On-the-Job training (OJT) in the company (see Table 1). The duration of support is dependant on the mode and duration of the programme that an individual will undergo (see Table 2 below)
Table 1: Salary support that companies may receive under the CCP
Funding to Employers by WSG | Standard Rate | Enhanced Rate |
Salary Support | 70% of monthly salary(capped at $4,000 per month) | 90% of monthly salary (capped at $6,000 per month) Long Term Unemployed^ local trainees or mature local trainees aged 40 and above ^Defined as being unemployed and actively seeking employment for six months or more. |
Individuals will undergo a structured OJT centric training programme at the company. The duration of the CCP that an individual will undergo is summarised in the table below.
Table 2: Modes and its associated duration of programme that an individual will undergo
Modes | Duration (months) of programme |
Place-and-Train (New hire) | 3 or 6 for Operators and PMETs respectively |
Redeployment | 3 or 6 for Operators and PMETs respectively |
Job Redesign Reskilling | 3 for both Operators and PMETs |
Upon successful completion of the CCP, individuals will be equipped with the necessary skills to take on higher value manufacturing related roles within the Precision Engineering sector.
